El Quds American School is a co – educational school which offers the American curriculum from pre- School through grade 12.
The school was founded in 2004. El Quds American School is accredited by the Egyptian Ministry of Education and by the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).
Students who earn the High School Diploma from El Quds American School may join Egyptian universities as well as other international or foreign universities.
Curriculum:
Q.A.S provides students with a challenging academic program and a range of extra curricular and co. curricular activities. While following a U.S curriculum the school uses U.S text books and educational materials. Arabic is taught in all grades, French is taught starting from grade 3. The school's testing program includes SAT for high school students and MAP as a standardized test for all grades.



School's facilities:
The school operates on a campus of 10,000 square meters which accommodates athletic facilities such as soccer field, basketball and volley ball courts.
The school building includes an auditorium fully equipped with theater capabilities, library, 2 computer labs, biology, chemistry and physics labs.



Enrollment:
Number of students enrolled in the school year 2008/2009 is 353 students.
All new applications must submit previous school records if they have attended school before.
In addition, they are tested for placement prior to acceptance.
Faculty:
In the school year 2008/2009 , there are 57 full time faculty members headed by Mr. Mohamed amrawy – Legal representative and Dr. Hayam Mesbah , school principal .
All members have a minimum of four year college degree; many posses a master degree . In the school's aim to achieve educational excellence , the school provides its faculty with continuous training . This year El Quds School hosted the CITA Five Star Conference.


Activities:
El Quds American school offers a variety of extra- curricular activities. There are after school clubs for various sports . The school's teams have achieved leading positions in basketball and football. Moreover, the school organizes an annual marathon.


The school prides in its science club which participates in local activities and national competitions.



The art group is a very active group within the school ,last but not least, the drama club will present this year its fourth big production "my fair lady".



News :
118 students are expected to graduate this school year 2008/2009 . the school proudly announces that 13 students scored full marks in SAT II . moreover , several students have scored the highest grades ever in SAT I .

1. School hours
Regular School Hours 7:15 ___ 2:00

2. Attendance
Good attendance is important for successful learning. If your child must be absent because of illness, please call the school. Please send a note or a medical certificate to your child's class teacher upon return giving reason for absence. When students are late they must report to the office for an admittance slip. If your child must leave during school hours, please report directly to the office to pick up your child. Picking children from classrooms directly is forbidden.
3. Illness
Please do not send a child to school if he / she appear ill, or has been ill through the previous night. Other students should not be exposed to a contagious child.
4. Bus Rules
It is expected that students will respect the rights and safety of other students and the bus driver.
- Be at your bus stop before the bus arrives.
- Remain seated at all times.
- Do not eat or drink on the bus. Gum is not allowed.
- Do not throw objects, either on or off the bus.
- Keep your head, hands and objects inside the bus.
- Do not litter, write on, or damage the bus.
- Do not swear, be loud, tease, or use rude gestures.
- Follow monitors and driver's directions promptly.
5. Home Work policy
H.W may include practice and reinforcement of skills which have been taught.
Preparation for upcoming classroom activities.
Application of learned skills to new areas.
Special projects of appropriate length may be included at all grade levels.
Consequences for incomplete / missing H.W are set in each classroom and may include:
- Completion for the next day / period.
- Private interview with the student
- Contact with the parent
- Detention during break time or after school.
- A lower grade in the subject(s) involved.
- Suspension for habitual neglect of duty.
6. School Uniform
- Student should wear the school uniform at all times.
- School uniform is available at the school.
7. Student responsibilities
- Obey school and classroom rules.
- Follow instructions of school staff.
- Speak respectfully to all staff and students.
- Take care of school materials and the environment.
- Attend school on time.
- Do all assigned work.
- Students are to bring the required books and stationary for the lessons they have everyday.
- Students are not to bring valuables such as money, game boys, jewellery, CD players, MP3 or I pods. We are not responsible for these.
- Make up and nail polish are strictly forbidden.
- Use of cell phones is not allowed. In case students need to use the phone, they are allowed to use the school phones.
8. As a result of misbehavior, a student may have to:
- Apologize orally
- Report the behavior to his / her parent and ask for help in solving the problem.
- Clean up mess or pay for damage caused.
- To be removed temporarily from the classroom.
- Complete an assignment in a detention setting.
- Sit / stand alone at break time to "think out" the problem.
- Meet with teacher, principal and / or parents.
- Lose the privilege of an activity or a trip.
- Be suspended from bus if misbehavior occurs on bus.
- Be suspended from school.
9. Violence
- Students are to keep hands and feet to themselves and practice self control at all times.
- Bullying, rough play or teasing is not permitted.
- If a student commits an act of violence, the student will not return to class until a parent has been contacted to be informed of disciplinary action.
10. Major offences
- Truancy.
- Opposition to authority.
- Habitually neglecting his / her duties as a pupil.
- Willfully destroying school property.
- Using improper or profane language.
- Acting to cause significant physical or emotional harm to others (bullying).
- Possessing tobacco products.
The mentioned above are considered major offences that may be given suspension
The period of suspension varies according to the seriousness of judgment of principal
11. Concerns
If problems arise, please contact your child's class teacher, co-coordinator, and head of department or principal.
This helps avoid misunderstandings and allows us to act upon concern.
